Global mamas is a fair trade organization, and is working with shea butter producers in the Damango area to get organic and fair trade certifications for our 100% natural raw unrefined shea butter. These certifications will guarantee that the hard work of the women of Damongo is properly recognized, appreciated and compensated. We are currently working to ensure that our bulk shea butter is certified organic by way of the Institute of Marketology (IMO). The shea nuts are collected by a collective of women, the Christian Mothers of Damongo, residing in the Northern Region of Ghana. The area, in which our shea nuts are harvested, is completely free of pesticide use and any potential chemical contaminants, providing you the finest quality organic bulk shea butter.
Global Mamas is already recognized as a fair trade manufacturer and distributor through the Fair Trade Federation (FTF) and is also a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO). We promote equitable and fair partnerships between producers in Africa and marketers in North America, Europe and Australia. Our partnership to supply shea butter made in a fair manner works to provide low-income individuals working with the shea butter industry in the Northern Region of Ghana with a reliable "living wage" for their work. A living wage is set based on family size and cost of life within a given area, and exceeds the minimum wage set for the given country. We embrace the fair trade principles in the production of Global Mamas shea butter.
